Dear members of St. John's:

Mike Flanagan and I had a very positive meeting this morning with Bishop Chane. He listened intently to the "state of St. Johns" and was impressed with the gains we have made financially and as a community. He was also very thankful for our check for the Bishop's Appeal. He thanked us numerous times for that.

At the end of our report, we told him we were sent by the vestry to tell him that the parish was not interested in a search and that we were happy with the person we had. He smiled and said he was not surprised by those statements. He went on to define the difference between the terms priest-in-charge and interim rector. In his view a priest-in-charge may now become a candidate for rector whereas an interim rector cannot.

Therefore after much positive discussion concerning the growth St. John's has experienced these past 18 months, Bishop Chane is happily offering us the opportunity to conduct a search and will allow Albert to be a candidate for rector of St. John's. He is asking us to interview at least three people, including Albert.

Questions still remain as to the timing of the search. The search could begin in September 2008 or maybe earlier. He has directed Mike and me to meet with Canon Sulerud, canon for deployment, to work out the options as to the length and scope of this search. She is currently on vacation. I will call her office and find out when she will return to work. With Christmas right around the corner, we will need to give this much discussion and thought.

Both of us felt this was a very positive meeting and the best outcome we could hope for. It is right in line with what Bishop Chane has offered other parishes. We now have the process with which to follow!

Thank you all for your help and support.

Margaret
